ופלשתאי שבו ית ארונא דיי ואיתוהי מאבן סעדא לאשדוד:
lashdwd seda mabn waythwhy dyy arwna yth shbw wplshthay
Now the Philistines had taken God’s ark, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

ונסיבו פלשתאי ית ארונא דיי ואעילו יתיה לבית דגון ואקימו יתיה בסטר דגון:
dgwn bsTr ythyh waqymw dgwn lbyth ythyh waeylw dyy arwna yth plshthay wnsybw
The Philistines took God’s ark, and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.

ואקדימו אנשי אשדוד ביומא דבתרוהי והא דגון רמי על אפוהי על ארעא קדם ארונא דיי ונסיבו ית דגון ואתיבו יתיה לאתריה:
lathryh ythyh wathybw dgwn yth wnsybw dyy arwna qdm area el apwhy el rmy dgwn wha dbthrwhy bywma ashdwd anshy waqdymw
When the people of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark. They took Dagon and set him in his place again.

ואקדימו בצפרא ביומא דבתרוהי והא דגון רמי על אפוהי על ארעא קדם ארונא דיי וריש דגון ותרתין פיסת ידוהי קציצן מחתא על סקופתא לחוד גופיה אשתאר עלוהי:
elwhy ashthar gwpyh lkhwd sqwptha el mkhtha qtsytsn ydwhy pysth wthrthyn dgwn wrysh dyy arwna qdm area el apwhy el rmy dgwn wha dbthrwhy bywma btspra waqdymw
When they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact.

על כן לא דרכין כומרי דגון וכל דעלין לבית דגון על סקופת דגון באשדוד עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed bashdwd dgwn sqwpth el dgwn lbyth delyn wkl dgwn kwmry drkyn la kn el
Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

ותקיפת מחתא דיי על אנש אשדוד ואצדינון ואלקי יתהון בטחורין ית אשדוד וית תחומהא:
thkhwmha wyth ashdwd yth bTkhwryn ythhwn walqy watsdynwn ashdwd ansh el dyy mkhtha wthqypth
But Yahweh’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.

וחזו אנשי אשדוד ארי שויא עליהון מחתא ואמרין לא ישרי ארון אלהא דישראל עמנא ארי תקיפת מחתיה עלנא ועל דגון טעותנא:
Tewthna dgwn wel elna mkhthyh thqypth ary emna dyshral alha arwn yshry la wamryn mkhtha elyhwn shwya ary ashdwd anshy wkhzw
When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for his hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god.”

ושלחו וכנשו ית כל טורני פלשתאי לותהון ואמרו מה נעביד לארון אלהא דישראל ואמרו לגת יסתחר ארון אלהא דישראל ואסחרו ית ארון אלהא דישראל:
dyshral alha arwn yth waskhrw dyshral alha arwn ysthkhr lgth wamrw dyshral alha larwn nebyd mh wamrw lwthhwn plshthay Twrny kl yth wknshw wshlkhw
They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to Gath.” They carried the ark of the God of Israel there.

והוה בתר דאסחרו יתיה והות מחתא דיי בקרתא שגושא רבא לחדא ומחא ית אנשי קרתא מזעירא ועד רבא ולקו להון בטחורין:
bTkhwryn lhwn wlqw rba wed mzeyra qrtha anshy yth wmkha lkhda rba shgwsha bqrtha dyy mkhtha whwth ythyh daskhrw bthr whwh
It was so, that after they had carried it there, Yahweh’s hand was against the city with a very great confusion; and he struck the men of the city, both small and great, so that tumors broke out on them.

ושלחו ית ארונא דיי לעקרון והוה כמיתי ארונא דיי לעקרון וזעיקו עקרונאי למימר אסחרו לותנא ית ארון אלהא דישראל לקטלותנא וית עמנא:
emna wyth lqTlwthna dyshral alha arwn yth lwthna askhrw lmymr eqrwnay wzeyqw leqrwn dyy arwna kmythy whwh leqrwn dyy arwna yth wshlkhw
So they sent God’s ark to Ekron. As God’s ark came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.”

ושלחו וכנשו ית כל טורני פלשתאי ואמרו שלחו ית ארון אלהא דישראל ויתוב לאתריה ולא יקטול יתי וית עמי ארי הות שיגוש קטלא בכל קרתא תקיפת לחדא מחתא דיי תמן:
thmn dyy mkhtha lkhda thqypth qrtha bkl qTla shygwsh hwth ary emy wyth ythy yqTwl wla lathryh wythwb dyshral alha arwn yth shlkhw wamrw plshthay Twrny kl yth wknshw wshlkhw
They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send the ark of the God of Israel away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly panic throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there.
